There is a recurring theme among my coaching clients and it goes like this: “Why would anyone want to listen to what I have to say? I don’t know much of anything. And really, who would ever pay ME that much money for my services? There is no way I can charge that much!” Which always causes me to ask, “Just who is the expert here? You or them?”

Surprise!

I am always prepared to be surprised. It was an important lesson when I went to school and studied to be a homeopath: Have no expectations and be prepared to be surprised. You never know what someone might tell you in a consultation and you had better not be caught with your mouth open, aghast, as they tell you their deepest, darkest secrets. So surprise rarely catches me when I am working with clients, yet when it does, it is remarkable. Let me tell you about what happened last week.
